The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition is the Samsung flagship for the rest of us


They are all squeezed into an effective polycarbonate body that comes in one of six vibrant colors: Cloud Red, Cloud Orange, Cloud Lavender, Cloud Mint, Cloud Navy and Cloud White. Oh, and did I mention that the F-Mention edition should play nicely with all 5G networks? In previous years, phones like this may have been called Galaxy S20e or Galaxy S20 Lite. Not this time. Samsung has revived the “Fan Edition” Moniker, which it launched with the non-explosive Note 7 because it doesn’t have the “less-than-similar” resemblance to some of its previous labels. It was a smart move, as Samsung achieved performance in a phone that was largely balanced in style and largely high-performance that cost hundreds less than its flagships. The end result? A device that is crucial for Samsung right now can play a handful of roles.

It aims to bridge the gap between the company’s mid-range A-Series smartphones and the more premium Galaxy S20 line. (In a conversation with reporters, Samsung called the phone a “connective tissue” that doesn’t have a ring like the “Fan Edition”.) It’s to free Samsung’s optics from the scattering of really expensive phones. A time of profound uncertainty. More than anything, though, it means Sell – And fast.
