It’s no secret that the Galaxy Note 20 looks pretty bad next to its brother, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, but what could be even worse for this plastic coated premium pricing device is that it might not look so great, even compared to it upcoming Galaxy S20 Fan edition. The latter will indeed come on the market later than the Galaxy Note 20, but it will also not be a brand new device, reason why it is the Galaxy S20 badge to begin with. However, the shortcomings of the Galaxy Note 20 will apparently be further highlighted by this Fan Edition device that was probably assembled from Samsung’s share box.
Namely, early rumors suggested that the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will be equipped with a 120Hz display. The same rumor has now been repeated by @DSCCRoss in a recent tweet that stated that the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will use the same display as the Galaxy S20 +, which means it should have a 120Hz refresh rate. As you all probably know by now, the Galaxy Note 20 does not enjoy such luxury, as its 6.7-inch flat Super AMOLED panel can only handle 60Hz.
The Galaxy S20 Fan Edition may cost less than the Galaxy Note 20
How much will the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition cost? We are not sure yet because Samsung has kept these details under wraps. But the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition was able to hit the shelves in October for about $ 750 according to another earlier report. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Note 20 costs $ 999, so by choosing the latter, you would actually pay more for less, at least regarding the display.
Granted, Samsung will also be cutting some corners with the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition. For example, it is expected to have only 6GB of RAM, assuming the recent Geekbench entry is incorrect in the list of 8GB of RAM. However, the keyboard shortcuts taken by the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition will not change the fact that the Galaxy Note 20 still looks like a statement of poor value as even a truly Lite / Fan Edition device has a better display than it can have.
We’ll have to wait and see what exactly the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition has to offer before we pass judgment on the base Galaxy Note 20 model from this perspective, but so far things seem to be going from bad to worse for this S Pen device. We will keep you posted.
