For at least another month – millions of conflicting tenants will be protected from evacuation.
The stimulus bill, passed by Congress late Monday night, will extend the national ban on vacancies until January. But the relief bill still needs to be signed by President Trump.
But, if the package should be passed, none of the solutions are enough to keep the highest-risk tenants in the house back in January.
Struggling to stay afloat
Kelly Green, who lives in her 1,429-month apartment apartment at Daytona Beach, Florida, has not been able to pay rent since September.
“The only reason I have a roof over my head is to evacuate,” Leela said. “
Green makes the crystal for her stay at motorcycle rallies and other festivals – and the sequin-biker apparel.
After closing in March, there were no festivals, no occasions and no income. Still, she managed to get the current on her rent until July, along with her savings, stimulus payments, rent relief and unemployment insurance payments. But she did not know how she would be able to meet the $ 600-a-week supplemental unemployment support.
Lee heard about the coronavirus-related rental relief fund offered by Volusia County, where he lives. He applied for assistance and was paid $ 4,500 for three months’ rent.
But there was one exception: Tenants for the Volusia County Rental Assistance Program are required to be present on rent by March 13, 2020. Green was behind her rent in February and as a result, her apartment complex will not accept assistance.
Without that money, Green October was unable to pay the full rent for October, November or December. And since she overcharged the lease in November, she is now on a month-to-month lease which is $ 500 more expensive per month.
“Even if the moratorium is extended, money is being spent against me,” he said. “If I get a check for rent for three months, they will help me the most if they take it.”
