The first trailer for ‘The Comey Rule’ reveals Brendan Gleeson and Jeff Daniels as Donald Trump and James Comey

Showtime released the first teaser for “The Comey Rule,” giving audiences their first live glimpse of performances by Brendan Gleeson and Jeff Daniels from Donald Trump and James Comey, respectively.

The two actors star in the US President and former FBI director in a television adaptation. from Comey’s 2018 book “A Higher Leality: Truth, Lies, and Leadership, The Comey Rule”.

In the trailer, Gleeson’s Trump sits down to dinner with Daniels’ Comey, where the new president-elect laments that some people in the FBI “have it” for him and how “no one is treated as unfairly as I am.” Meanwhile, Daniels’ Comey asks why four people linked to Russia are working on his campaign.

The trailer ends with Trump whispering into Comey’s ear that he is eager to work with him.

Throughout the trailer, Daniels is front and center, while Gleeson’s face remains somewhat hidden at all times. In its announcement, Showtime offered viewers images of both actors in makeup as their respective characters. While Daniels’ Comey appears in dramatic close-up while on the phone, Gleeson’s Trump is only seen in silhouette, seemingly representing the rainy day of Trump’s inauguration.

Showtime has previously stated that the miniseries is not a biographical film about Comey. Instead, the network promises an “internal journey down the corridors of power, where decision-makers struggle to apply the old rules to a dramatic new paradigm in the face of Russia’s unprecedented and deep penetration of US politics, with the state by right of our nation hanging the balance. The actions of each character in these historical months made the careers of some, destroyed the careers of others and helped shape the incendiary political landscape in which we live today. “

The first part of the series will focus on the early days of Russia’s infamous investigation, as well as the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails and the impact they had on the 2016 election. The second part delves into the day-to-day events of the deteriorating relationship between Comey and Trump during the “chaotic first months of the Trump presidency, where allies became enemies, enemies became friends, and the truth depended on which side you were on.”
