Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine candidate’s first dose of U.S. Sent to the United States from Belgium, a source familiar with the planning of the United Airlines Covid vaccine preparation work team confirmed to NBC on Saturday.
A source told the network that the FAA allows United to carry 15,000 pounds of dry ice per flight, five times the allowable limit.
The Pfizer vaccine must be kept below freezing temperature to maintain dose effectiveness.
United will not confirm details of The Hill’s flight but said it would “support efforts to distribute a vaccine globally”, which will be registered by the shipment’s United Cargo division.
Pfizer’s vaccine candidates have been developed in partnership with the German biotechnology company Bioentech, and last week, Pfizer applied for Emergency Use Author Theory (EUA) with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The vaccine will be distributed once it is approved.
The United Kingdom is set to approve the Pfizer vaccine early next week, according to a report in the Financial Times Saturday.
