HAGI, The Netherlands (AP) – The Dutch king delivered a video message on Wednesday saying he had “sorry at heart” and would not have gone to Greece for a family vacation last week, which was broken up in public in the middle of the trip. In the video, a somber King Willem-Alexander said, “It shows him sitting next to his wife, Queen Maxima, in his palace in the forest of The Hague.
It is very unusual for a Dutch king to give such a contradictory message to a nation. The vacation has also been politically damaging to Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who is responsible for the king’s actions under the Dutch constitution.
Willem-Alexander and his family went to Greece on Friday, where they have a vacation home, but the king, queen and one of their daughters returned home on Saturday night. His other two daughters later went home.
The Dutch government took a vacation a few days after calling it a “partial lockdown” to curb the growing coronavirus infection in the country.
“Although the trip was within the rules, it was very foolish not to consider the impact of the new restrictions on our society,” Raja said.
“Our decision to return was made in the sense that we should not go.” He added.
“We will continue to work with you to control the coronavirus. So that everyone in our country can start a normal life as soon as possible, ”said William-Alexander. “It simply came to our notice then. We are continuing to do so to the best of our ability.
