‘The Crown’: Lesley Manville to Play Princess Margaret in Final Season


The Oscar-nominated actress will take on the role of Helena Bonham-Carter.

Lesley Manville, who was nominated for an Oscar for her role in Ghost Thread, joins the final season of the hit Netflix drama The crown to play Princess Margaret, the younger sister of Queen Elizabeth II.

She will assume the role of Helena Bonham-Carter. Vanessa Kirby previously also played Princess Margaret in the series about the British royal family.

“I couldn’t be happier playing Princess Margaret,” Manville said via the show’s Twitter feed. “The witness is being transmitted to him by two formidable actresses, and I really don’t want to let go of it. Also, playing the brothers with my dear friend Imelda Staunton will be a total joy.”

Earlier this year, it was revealed that Staunton assumed the role of Queen Elizabeth II, replacing Olivia Coleman.

The crown It is written by Peter Morgan and produced by Left Bank Pictures, majority owned by Sony. The show’s fourth season is slated to come out later this year, with the fifth and final season launching in 2021.

Morgan had previously planned the series for six seasons. “Now that we have started working on the stories for the fifth season, it has become clear to me that this is the perfect time and place to stop,” he said in January.
