Elizabeth Debicki, who has her star in Widows and will be featured in Christopher Nolan’s Tenet, Princess Diana will play in the last two seasons of The crown, the show announced Sunday.
The 29-year-old Australian actor will take over the role of newcomer Emma Cormin who plays the iconic royal in the fourth season of the Netflix show.
“The spirit of Princess Diana, her words and her actions live on in the hearts of so many,” Debicki said in a statement. “It is my real privilege and honor to be a part of this masterful series that has absolutely hooked me on episode one,” she said.
Debicki is one of the few non-British actors on the show, as Variety reported, and has previously appeared in feature films e.g. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 en The Burnt Orange Heresy.
The show recently announced that Two dolls actor Johnathan Pryce will play Prince Philip in the last two seasons. Oscar nominee Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth, taking over for Olivia Colman who will star as Queen in seasons 3 and 4. Lesley Manville will die as Princess Margaret in recent seasons.
Netflix had initially said that the popular British royal drama would end after its fifth season, but announced last month that there would be a sixth and final season.
The final seasons will take the series to the early 2000s and will most likely reflect Diana’s divorce from Prince Charles and her tragic death in 1997.
Kristen Stewart also plays Princess Diana in an upcoming movie called Spencer.
