Covid-19 infection in England has dropped by more than two-thirds in recent weeks, according to preliminary findings from a survey on community-wide shows.
Interim findings of the ninth report of RAACT-1, a study on covid-19 infection in England, were released on Thursday by Imperial College London.
More than 85,8400 volunteers were tested for sore throats and noses during February and February to check the level of infection in the general population in England.
The findings show that the national prevalence decreased by two-thirds – from 1.57% to 0.51%, or 51 to 10,000. This is a significant reduction in infection compared to the last report from 6 to 22 January. England entered the third national lockdown of the epidemic in January. 6.
“These encouraging results show that lockdown measures effectively bring down the infection. It ensures that the number of infections has decreased in all eras and in most parts of the country, “said Paul Elliott, director of the program at Imperial, in a statement.
The widespread decline was large in some regions, especially in London where it has risen from 2.83% to 0.54% since the last report.
“In London, the South East and the West Midlands, the decline was about 80%, although the decline was lower in the Northern Territories,” the royal report said.
The report added that there was a wide-ranging significant decline in all age groups with an increase of 0.89% in people aged 18 to 24 and 0.86% between 5 and 12 years. The report concludes that despite a “strong decline” in the proportion of coronaviruses in the general population in England in five to six weeks in lockdowns, it still remains low – “at the same level as seen in late September 2020.”
There are still more hospitalized in Covid-19 than the peak of the first wave in April 2020.
The UK launched its mass vaccination campaign in December, with almost all people being vaccinated between January and February. It has now given the first dose to more than 15 million people.
The widespread decline in people aged 65 and over compared to other age groups suggests a similar decline, suggesting that if vaccination is effective in reducing disease as well, this effect is still not the main driver of widespread trends. Therefore, the waterfalls described here are largely due to the social interactions that occur during the described descent, ”the report said.
“We do not yet know if the vaccine will stop the transmission of the virus to anyone else,” the UK Department of Health added.
However, the UK National Fish for National Statistics reported on Tuesday that around 1% in the UK tested positive for antibodies over-80% “due to the high rate of vaccination in this group.”
