Nearly a year after the coronavirus epidemic first came down in Los Angeles, public health officials confirmed more than 22,000 total Covid-19 deaths, bringing the county to an even more dire target.
To date, Los Angeles County has reported a total of 22,008 deaths and 1,201,866 cases. Saturday’s coronavirus count included 1,823 new cases, 98 new deaths and 1,264 angelinos currently hospitalized for the virus. While the latest figures confirm a steady decline in new cases from January’s record-breaking numbers, officials are urging Angelnos to continue his part.
“Today’s horrific Millstone reminds us of the human toll of this epidemic and actions affect cases, hospitalizations and deaths a few weeks from now,” said Barbara Ferrer, director of public health. “As we increase spring and summer temperatures in Los Angeles County, more people will come out to take advantage of our beautiful county. I ask you responsibly to always wear your mask, and avoid unnecessary travel, avoiding large gatherings and crowds at this time. ”

For now, coronavirus cases may be on the decline, but public health officials are also warning of additional MIS-C cases in children in Los Angeles County. Officials on Saturday reported 16 additional cases of multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with covid. A total of 116 children have been infected with MIS-C county-wide in public health. Latino children account for 75% of MIS-C reported cases, officials said.
The latest public health coronavirus update comes in the vicinity of less restricted red levels such as Lost Angeles and Orange Counties. Los Angeles, which is currently at the most restricted purple level in the state’s blueprint for a safer economy, could move to the red level after its case rate falls to 7 .. per 100 cases. At present it is .2.5 cases per hundred thousand.
