Health officials in Maine are investigating a coronavirus outbreak at a church that held a fellowship rally earlier this month.
The state Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday that 17 cases of coronavirus have been linked to the Brooks Pentecostal church in Waldo County.
That number had reached 32 by Monday, according to the Portland Press Herald.
The Maine CDC said in a press release on Saturday that the church in Brooks, 40 miles northeast of Augusta Gusta, a city of about 1,100 people, Oct Kto. Organized fellowship rally between 2nd and Oct 4th.
Officials advised that anyone attending or spending time at the church’s affiliated school, Lighthouse Christian Academy, should monitor the symptoms of Covid-19, and contact a doctor if they show symptoms.
Attempts to reach the state health agency and the church on Tuesday morning were not immediately successful.
According to the state’s COVID-19 dashboard, Walldo County has 124 mixed cases of coronavirus and 14 deaths. Across the state, less than 6,000 cases and 146 deaths have been reported.
This is not the first case of a coronavirus outbreak with a church in Maine. At least 10 cases have been tied to the past Leverly Baptist Church, while its pastor had an indoor wedding, labeled as a superspider phenomenon, with the most infected and at least eight deaths.
