The Cornwall Star Inn uses an electric fence for social distancing from COVID-19

A pub in the UK has a shocking way of enforcing social distancing guidelines.

The Star Inn in Cornwall placed an electric fence that is normally used to restrict livestock near its bar counter to help keep customers at a safe distance from bartenders.

Pub owner Johnny McFadden, who is also a farmer, decided to install the electric fence to keep his employees safe, the South West News Service reported.

“Before the fence, people weren’t following social distancing and doing what they wanted, but now people are paying attention to social distancing guidance,” McFadden told Cornwall Live.

McFadden told SWNS that the fence is generally off, but that it could come on if things get out of control.

“It is just a deterrent, but I hope that seeing it will help keep people away. This is how it works for livestock too, animals see it and often don’t want to try it,” said Joel Carne-Mead, who works at the bar. . , he told the news agency.

Pubs in parts of the UK have slowly reopened after coronavirus restrictions with new guidelines on how to safely serve customers. According to the BBC, each nation in the UK sets its own rules on reopening bars and restaurants.

In the UK, there have been more than 290,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and almost 45,000 known deaths, according to data from Johns Hopkins University. The United States has more than 3.3 million confirmed cases and more than 135,000 known deaths.
