The Brooklyn neighborhood sees an ‘uptick’ in COVID-19 cases

Sunset Park in Brooklyn sees an “uptick” in cases of coronavirus – with 228 people testing positive for COVID-19 in the past two weeks, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Wednesday.

The mayor said the pocket of positive cases was found through “hyperlocal testing” by the city’s Test and Trace Corps.

“It’s over a very limited period, it’s a very limited number of cases,” Blasio said in his daily press release. “We now have a warning light. We have a sign that there is something we want to know more about. “

He said workers from Test and Trace Corps would “saturate” the southern neighborhood of 38,000 households with 38,000 households with floors, robocalls and doorknobs with the simple message, “Everyone needs to be tested.”

“We want to test everyone as soon as possible to see what happens, if there is anything further we need to do,” he said.

Newly appointed city health commissioner Dr David Chokshi said in the past two weeks 3,300 residents in Sunset Park have been swabbed for COVID-19, with 228 tests returning positive.

“The Sunset Park community will see even more of us in the coming days,” he said.
