Kyle Wright could not escape the fourth inning and the Miami Marlins little ball made its way to an 8-2 victory over the Atlanta Braves.
The game came good enough for the Braves when Travis d’Arnaud jumped on the first field, which he saw from Pablo Lopez and drove it to the left center for his third home point of the season. Kyle Wright just needed four pitches to get through the bottom half of the first and ran around a single and ran in a scoreless second.
However, things fell apart for Wright in the third, as he again seems to be losing command. The inning started well enough when Wright knocked out Jon Berti. The then ran the no. 9 hitter Magneuris Sierra who would steal second and ran to score on an excuse me double by Jonathan Villar. Wright then got Jesus Aguilar to fly out for the second.
Things went from this side when Wright took three straight walks to Corey Dickerson, Matt Joyce and Brian Anderson to force in a run and put Miami ahead 2-1. He would escape more damage when Francisco Cervelli ran out to Swanson in the third for the final.
Atlanta would tie the game again in the fourth, thanks to back-to-back doubles from Nick Markakis and Adam Duvall.
Wright would return for the fourth inning, but would be drawn after Eddy Alvarez ran on four field goals. He would come out after throwing 3+ innings while allowing two hits and three runs. He ran six and finished with just one strikeout. Wright threw 65 pitches with only 29 landings in the stretch zone.
Grant Dayton replaced Wright and immediately ran into trouble when Berti singled with Alvarez who went all the way to third. Sierra would bring Alvarez home with a game of safety squeeze to make it 3-2. Villar followed with an infield single to third. Dayton then got Aguilar to fly out for the second with Berti tagging and move on to third on the play. With Corey Dickerson on the plate, the Marlins pulled off a double steal with Berti scoring on the yard to second to extend the lead to 4-2.
Miami grabbed two more runs in the sixth against Luke Jackson on a sac fly by Aguilar and a run-scoring single from Dickerson. Aguilar struck two more runs against Jackson in the seventh inning on a ball from the rocket ground that was deflected off the glove by Dansby Swanson to increase the lead to 8-2.
Atlanta has gotten many miles out of its bullpen this season, but Dayton and Jackson combined to allow nine hits, two walks and five runs in four innings of relief.
Pablo Lopez did well for the Marlins who held the Braves to just two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. Lopez knocked out eight batters and did not run one.
Atlanta’s losing streak expands to four straight games and they drop to 11-10 on the season. Max Fried will try to stop the bleeding on Saturday, while Miami on the left will face Daniel Castano.
