The best options for the Jets in the NFL Draft between the Trevor Lawrence saga

The general manager only with the Jets’ 23-20 win over the Rams. Douglas’s job was made a little more difficult this season. Drafting Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence with the No. 1-overall pick would have been an easy call. If the Jets finish with the No. 2 pick, Douglas faces some choices. Here’s a look at some of its options if the Jets prefer another:

1. Draft the best quarterback available and trade Sam Darnold.

Ohio State’s Justin Fields and BYU’s Zac Wilson are both in controversy for being the top quarterback taken after Lawrence. Both aren’t considered Lawrence’s chances, but they’re both highly regarded in NFL circles and one could actually emerge in the pre-draft process. If the Jets make a deal with Darnold, they might get a second-round pick plus a pick in the late round.

2. Trade the Peak and keep Darnold.

If Douglas is not sold on quarterback prospects in this draft, he could catch Darnold, who is under contract for a year, and try to pull off a huge package of picks. In 201 In, the Eagles traded two first-round picks, a second-round pick, a third-round pick and a fourth-round pick to move the Browns to No. 2 and take on Carson Wentz. Such a package would accelerate Douglas’s roster rebuild.

3. Take the best non-quarterback available and keep Darnold.

The Jets need the help of all their rosters. Landing a select player here is not the worst option. Reg Reagan’s face in this draft is Pani Sevel’s top non-quarterback. Will the Jets take tack calls in the first round in the back-to-back years? It would be unusual to lift this high altitude with a plow, but the jets could be augmented with seaweed and flies. Other options here are Alabama WR Devonta Smith, LSU WR Ja’mar Chase and Penn State LB Micah Parsons.

A. Sign a p quarterback and either pick pick trade or use non-quarterback.

There aren’t many great p te options to expect to hit the market, so this is unlikely. Will Douglas trade for Wentz, whom he knows from his time with the Eagles? He wants to trade a draft election right now and it seems unlikely he will make a deal. Andy Dalton, Jacob Brisett, Philip Rivers, Ryan Fitzpatrick Trick, James Winston and Mitch Trubiski will all be available.
