A bear was filmed approaching a group of hikers and standing on its hind legs to oddly sniff them out in a video that is going viral online. The chilling video was filmed in Mexico’s Chipinque Ecological Park, reports Daily Mail.
The images show a woman standing as the black bear approaches her. Two other hikers watch the scene, also standing fixed in their places. The animal perches on its hind legs to sniff out the woman’s head, who surprisingly not only manages to stay calm, but also picks up his phone for a quick selfie with it. After inspecting the woman, the bear falls to the ground but does not walk away. Instead, even when someone outside the camera yells to discourage him, the bear repeatedly tries to bite the woman’s leg and paws.
Fortunately, he soon loses interest and walks away from the group.
The video was shared online by Twitter and captured the attention of the Internet after it was re-posted by former NBA player Rex Chapman.

Videos of the incident, shot from different angles, have gone viral on the microblogging platform, garnering millions of views. Many on Twitter noticed that the bear seemed tame and seemed more curious than aggressive. Others said the situation was still dangerous.
No The guy in the back is just talking to keep everyone calm, to react if the bear gets too close. Nothing tame about the situation. Still, it’s not intensely dangerous at all as the bear isn’t looking to hurt anyone. Just curious. Of course inherently dangerous if scared.

He did well by not running, although walking away is probably not a bad idea. Steel nerves, but I would say the bear was not aggressive. It is always a great story when it ends well.

According to The Sun, this is not the first time that black bears from Chipinque Ecological Park have approached humans. In November of last year, one was filmed hiding behind a woman and stroking her hair.
Black bears are considered less aggressive than grizzly or brown bears, according to the Bear Smart Society. They often live near human settlements and are tolerant of people, rarely attacking them.
