Believe it or not, Colin Farrell actually appeared in the first teaser trailer for The Batman. Managing director Matt Reeves was on hand to introduce the new recordings at the DC FanDome virtual event on Saturday. While it might have been easier to find colleagues Batman villain Selina Kyle (Zoë Kravitz), Farrell’s Oswald Cobblepot (aka: The Penguin), was probably in this first-look footage. But, uh, where was he exactly?

Farrell’s Penguin appears in three short shots in the two minute teaser. We’ve highlighted two of the most beautiful looks on Farrell’s complete physical transformation so you can enjoy it all. In the first shot you see him standing in the rain and looking pretty dancing. Something has bitten off Penguin and he’s so crazy he doesn ‘t even get wet. It’s hard to tell exactly where Penguin is in this shot, but a second, even quicker look shows what Penguin and his men appear to be on a loading dock. There, the men are caught in a shooting. I think we all have a pretty good idea who Penguin and his crew are shooting at.

In a final shot, we see Penguin Highway down a Gotham Highway. He looks in his rearview mirror, the raging rim and remarks, “This man is crazy!” Now, if you did not immediately recognize Farrell under all that Penguin makeup, you might have a better chance of realizing him through his voice. Overall, the transformation is absolutely stunning and may be one of the most fascinating aspects of the first footage.

Farrell’s transformation also led to a lot of reactions on Twitter shortly after the teaser. The general consensus? Farrell definitely looks more like comic actor Richard Kind then Penguin or himself, for that matter. The Batman will be released on October 1, 2021. Check out more of the new teaser trailer images, read more on Reeves’ comments on why The Batman is not an origin story and how the gallery of villains from the movie of the villains affects the plot.
