The average of new positive cases of COVID-19 passes 400, the percentage of positive results increases again


MADISON, Wisconsin (WMTV) – The weekly average of recently confirmed cases now exceeds 400, according to the latest numbers released Sunday by the Wisconsin Department of Health Services.

The seven-day average is now 417 as 457 new cases were reported. The last time the weekly average of newly confirmed cases exceeded 400 was on June 4.

According to DHS, the number of percent positive cases also increased on Sunday, reaching 7.1 percent, 1.2 percent more than yesterday. The percentage increase is attributed to fewer tests being conducted, with just over 6,500 tests on Sunday. More than 9,000 tests were conducted on Saturday. The testing capacity for the state is currently 18., 425.

Since the pandemic began, 27,742 positive cases have been reported. State health authorities say 40 percent of those cases are between the ages of 20 and 39.

The percentage of cases that result in hospitalization is 12%. Of those hospitalized, the majority of these cases were located in the age group of 70 to 89 years.

No new deaths were reported today, keeping the cumulative total of deaths at 777.

DHS also reported that 21,593 of all Wisconsin coronavirus cases have been recovered. As of Sunday, there are 5,009 active cases in the state.
