The Apple Watch expands its range of cardio fitness measurements

Apple is expanding the range of Pal Cardiorespery Fitness that can be measured on the Apple Pal Watch. Starting today, the health app will classify users as “low”, “above average”, “below average”, or “low” cardio fitness. A lower level will trigger a notification.

Watch Watch monitors health through a metric called VO2 Max, which your body consumes oxygen during movement or exercise. The Apple Watch was already tracking average and high VO2 max for users during exercise. This update expands the area it measures and allows users to see their level only when they are moving while working.

Apple Pal says it tracks the lower range of the VO2 Max using watch sensors such as a heart rate monitor and an accelerometer. Typically, the VO2 Max is calculated in the lab using specialized equipment when exercising on a treadmill or other part of the device.

“Apple Paul Watch Watch now brings direct estimates of low cardio fitness levels from clinics to the user’s wrist, giving people a better understanding of how people can improve their long-term health through daily activity,” said Jeff Williams, Apple Paul’s chief operating operating officer. . Wearing a watch is less time consuming than going to the lab, but it may not be as accurate. Comparison of the Garmin and Polar Smartwatch with typical laboratory tests found that watches are about one percent off. Apple Paul does not report how much the traditional, clinical VO2 compares to the maximum measurement methods.
