The 8 Harry Potter movies disappear from HBO Max this August

On August 25, HBO Max will purge all eight Harry Potter movies from their service. This news comes just two months after the series’ initial surprise launch on the new WarnerMedia platform. It is currently unclear where the Harry Potter series will go, if there is any place.

Months ago, fans woke up to a surprise on HBO Max release day – all of the Harry Potter movies were streamed in one place. This was a difficult decision for HBO Max, as Warner Bros. originally released the movies, but sold the television rights to NBCUniversal four years ago, a deal that was to last until 2025. That deal reportedly required a lot of “horse trade” “Between Warner and NBC.

Warner did not explain why the Harry Potter series will come out of HBO Max so soon after launch. Since NBCUniversal still owns the television rights, the movies may migrate to NBC’s new service, Peacock. But the series may also fall back into the streaming void, and viewers may not be able to stream it through any subscription service.

Viewers can still watch the Potter series digitally on rental services like Apple’s Amazon Prime Video and iTunes, and probably will still be able to do so after August 25.
