Dodge’s three-row SUV received Hellcat treatment by installing a 6.2-liter supercharged V8
If you want to transport as many people as possible at ridiculous speeds while burning large amounts of fuel, we would like to present your perfect car. Yes, the Dodge Durango, which is already offered as a 469 bhp SRT, has now been transformed into a SRT Hellcat.
The full-size three-row SUV has received a 703-hp 6.2-liter supercharged Hemi V8. It transmits its 645 lb asphalt crushing torque to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
As expected, the new heart has a dramatic effect on performance. 0-60 mph occurs in 3.5 seconds, only a tenth of the considerably more powerful Challenger Hellcat Redeye. Keep going and you will reach a quarter mile on a National Hot Rod Association certificate of 11.5 seconds, and you will reach 180 mph.
Charge air coolers have their own dedicated cooling circuit consisting of a pump, coolant reservoir, and heat exchanger, which helps keep the air they ingest below 60 degrees Celsius. There is also a cold air mouth installed in the lower front bumper to satisfy the insatiable appetite of the Hellcat supercharger and the 92mm throttle body.
To allow the Durango to handle all that extra power, the Hellcat gets bigger Brembo brakes, tuned springs, and stiffer top mounts. Some of the suspension improvements have also been carried over to the standard Durango SRT. Sharing is showing interest.
The entire 2021 Durango line has been treated in a more aggressive style, partly inspired by the Charger Widebody. All models have a redesigned front end with slimmer LED headlights and higher fog lights. The latter are grouped together to improve air flow to the engine compartment in the Hellcat, which also has a chin spoiler not seen anywhere else in the range.
Inside, there’s a new instrument panel, decorative stitching on the center console, new door cards, and a faster ‘Uconnect 5’ infotainment system that works with a 10.1-inch touchscreen. The R / T, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat derivatives have the option of forged carbon fiber to make things even better.
Durango Hellcat models will be available to order this fall, before deliveries begin in early 2021. If you want one, don’t wait, it will only be produced for one model year. Meanwhile, the rest of the range will be available to order in the summer, with the first deliveries starting in the fall.
