Rapper King Vaughan was shot and killed in Atlanta early Friday morning, Fox News could confirm.
A spokesman for the Atlanta Police Department told Fox News in a statement Friday afternoon that “it is our understanding that Devon Bennett aka King Vaughan was shot and killed during the shooting this morning.”
The spokesman denied rumors that Bennett, 26, had been “shot and killed by APD officers.”
“At this point, our investigators believe police responded and shot Mr Bennett during an initial shootout between the two men before trying to stop the shooting.”

“Furthermore, Mr. Bennett was not located at the scene, but arrived at the hospital by private vehicle immediately after the shooting. The investigation into the incident is open and very active,” he said.

The incident took place outside the Monaco Hookah Lounge.
Two other people involved in the fight have died, the statement continued, “as a result of their injuries and three others are being treated in area hospitals. Officers were not injured.”

Two additional suspects were detained at the scene Friday morning.
Bennett’s friend DJ Academics, whose real name is Livingston Allen, paid tribute to the up-and-coming rapper on Twitter.
“It is with great sadness that I must confirm that King Vaughan has passed away.” Ellen wrote. “I spoke to his manager who fortunately survived the shooting and is currently recovering in hospital. However, Vaughn’s manager confirmed that Vaughn was shot and did not score. RIP King Vaughan.

“From my convoy with Von’s manager, who survived the shooting, he says it wasn’t the police who killed King Von.” He added. “However, he said the police took part in the shooting along with other armed men who were there. King Vaughan was reportedly unarmed. “
