The 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT Black series will cost $ 389,000, or about the same as two GT R Pros

If you thought the 720 horsepower flat crank Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series was amazing, you are not alone. Obviously Mercedes also thinks it’s pretty radical, and that’s probably why it’s charging almost double the price of the next best AMG GT for the privilege of owning one.

In his home country of Germany, the order books for Affalterbach’s latest and greatest track car were opened, and the car will start with the equivalent of more than $ 389,000 (335,240 euros). The AMG GT R Pro that falls directly below the Black Series costs “only” $ 199,650, about half what a Black Series will cost. Is Mercedes-AMG’s most powerful V8 road car really worth it over its GT R Pro? Let’s compare and contrast.

As mentioned, the Black series generates dominant 720 hp with a flat-crank 4.0-liter bi-turbo V8. The GT R Pro, meanwhile, uses a 4.0-liter V8 with a cross crank, also with two turbos producing 577 horsepower. The Black Series goes from zero to 60 in 3.2 seconds and reaches a maximum of 202 mph, while the GT R Pro reaches 60 in 3.5 seconds and reaches a maximum speed of 198. Both cars inherit aerodynamic, suspension and weight saving obtained. from the company’s GT3 racing program but, again, the Black Series only offers plus, which includes a more open grill, a larger rear spoiler complete with an active center fin and plenty of carbon fiber.

Oh, and that orange traffic cone color (officially known as AMG magma beam) is exclusive to the Black series.

Seen solely as a driving machine, then, does the Black Series AMG GT really duplicate the experience of a much cheaper GT R Pro? Probably not (although we would not object to Mercedes-AMG trying to show us otherwise). However, if it’s worth it as a collectible and status symbol, it’s likely a completely different story.

A Mercedes-Benz spokesperson said Unit that official US price will be announced later. That said, don’t expect this car to magically sell at significant discounts once it hits the U.S. in early 2021.
