Mazda de México launched the best type of claim for the next turbocharged Mazda 3, with a long lead that revealed that the turbo model will likely come with at least 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.

Last week, the Mazda Mexico YouTube channel uploaded an 8-minute intro video to the upcoming turbocharged Mazda 3, the automaker’s first official information on its new turbocharged hatch. Mazda had previously announced that the car would return on June 25.

In minute 6, Mazda Mexico President Miguel Barbeyto introduces the 2021 turbo Mazda 3 hatchback, confirming that it will come with basically the same 2.5-liter turbo engine as the company’s crossovers. As stated, the video confirms 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque, and the turbo will only be available with all-wheel drive.

Given that it comes from the company’s president in the country, I think it’s pretty safe to assume that these numbers will hold up when the car is officially revealed.

The video also claims that the car will be available with 18-inch black wheels, seven airbags, automatic LED headlights, a Bose 12-speaker system, and a six-speed car. In Mexico, the S Grand Touring version, the most affordable turbo available in that market, will start at 489,900 pesos, or almost exactly $ 22,000 US dollars. The current non-turbo Grand Touring setting starts at 429,900 pesos, or $ 19,295. The firm will cost 529,900 pesos, or directly $ 23,784. The availability and price of the US cuts have not been officially announced.

Jalopnik previously reported on leaked dealer order guide information which showed an available turbo sedan and hatchback option for the Mazda 3 2021. The data also showed that turbo models will only be offered with a six-speed automatic transmission, all-wheel drive, and a special “Anniversary Edition” hatchback. An unknown version of “PP”, which probably means “Premium Plus”, has yet to be confirmed, but seems suitable for the US market.

The car is a big deal for Barbeyto and Mazda Mexico, as it is a model that automaker enthusiasts have been ordering for years and will now be built at Mazda’s new manufacturing plant. Salamanca.

Autoblog He noted that the power output ratings for the 2.5-liter engines in the other Mazda vehicles are likely rated at 87 octane gasoline, and the engines could potentially produce more power with 93 octane gas:

As suspected, this is the same engine found in the Mazda6, CX-5, and CX-9. As such, we expect those production figures to be based on the use of 87 octane gasoline; In Mazda’s other three offerings, 93-octane gas unlocks 250 hp and 320 lb-ft. In the worst case, the Mazda3 turbo generates 41 hp and 124 lb-ft more than the naturally aspirated engine in today’s hatch and sedan. At best, the improvement is 64 hp and 124 lb-ft.

Unfortunately, Mazda doesn’t fully commit to a Mazdaspeed 3 anytime soon, which saddens me as I’d love to compare it to the 2020 Mini JCW GP I’m currently testing as well as the upcoming 240 horsepower Mk 8 Golf GTI. But an increase of at least 40 HP over the 3 that we currently have should be enough to please many people.

A Mazda spokesperson sent Jalopnik the following statement:

We are delighted to confirm that we will also receive the 2021 Mazda3 2.5 Turbo in the US We will be making an announcement with specific information related to the US market on 7/8, and we are happy to share our news with you at that time .
