Don’t worry, you can still buy a Hyundai Veloster N 2021 with a stick. But now you can also specify a dual-clutch car with “N Grin Shift” which, apparently, allows you to momentarily boost the turbo boost for a small boost in speed. Sounds like fun.
The moving car market with more than just an automatic transmission. Illuminated logo seats (!), A larger standard infotainment display, and a generous set of standard driver safety features are in the mix. Also, the “performance package” tune that adds 25 horsepower is now the baseline of the car.
Launching the Veloster N exclusively with a manual transmission was a bold move commercially, since, of course, many Americans and potential customers can’t handle it. (You’re missing it!) But I think it’s going to pay for Hyundai.
Test pilots universally loved the car, including myself, in part because a manual transmission goes a long way in making driving a compact sports car fun. Hyundai now has plenty of rave reviews, including the Road & Track Performance Car of the Year, to entice buyers and An automatic option to sell people who don’t want to learn the three-pedal foot set.

But DCT still has to be good. Honda has yet to offer an automatic on the Civic Si or Type R because it understands that the manual shift experience is critical to the personality of these cars. Well, the CTR has enough HP that it would probably still be good with a large automatic. But I don’t think Honda really has an automatic that can be cheap and fun enough to make sense in the ever-popular Civic Si.
Hyundai, on the other hand, may not have that problem. I still remember being amazed at how much fun the Kia Soul’s DCT felt and that the car was barely optimized for spirited driving. I have faith that the Veloster N DCT will be good, although I am forced to add that I would never specify it as long as a traditional manual was on the table.
Here are some details about this transmission that Hyundai posted on a launch today:
N Eight-speed wet dual-clutch transmission
Hyundai developed the N DCT with manual or fully automatic modes and eight speeds to improve acceleration and efficiency. N DCT is equipped with electronic actuators that operate with the double clutch, providing driving comfort, fuel efficiency and driving fun. Unlike a dry dual-clutch transmission, the wet DCT N uses oil to significantly improve lubrication and cooling performance, as required in higher torque applications. The new wet type N dual-clutch transmission uses an electric oil pump to increase thermal resistance and reduce direct parasitic resistance in the powertrain. The N DCT was fully developed in-house by N engineers, with a fun fit approach to driving.

N DCT Engineering
The Veloster N DCT transmission employs two clutch assemblies, one for odd gears and one for even and reverse gears. The clutch actuator assembly uses a lightweight electric motor system for increased efficiency, an optimized shift response, and compact packaging. It also deploys an external damper to improve NVH (noise, vibration, and roughness). The DCT uses an electromechanical gear actuator, which offers a lightweight design, increased fuel efficiency, and precise shift control through the electronic engine control unit. The DCT gear set uses hollow input shafts for an ultra-light and extremely responsive shifting character.

N Grin Shift
The N DCT even comes with gaming features that enhance driving fun. N Grin Shift (NGS) increases maximum torque by seven percent from 260 pound-feet. at 278 lb-ft. by allowing a temporary turbocharger supercharger and maximizing transmission response. When activated, the N Grin Shift mode causes the powertrain to switch to its sportiest program for up to 20 seconds (enough to pass). Also, the stream customization settings are now available in the “Custom” display mode.

Manual shift logic similar to a race
This fun-to-drive fit lens is further enhanced through an aggressive shift feel that is accentuated by the “push” performance. When braking, with the driver resisting forward g forces, the lowest gears are selected with an ergonomic forward push of the gear selector. In contrast, under the backward acceleration g forces, the highest gears are selected by a natural backward pull of the lever.

N Power Shift and N Track Sense Shift
N Power Shift (NPS) is activated when the car accelerates with an acceleration demand of more than 90 percent, mitigating the reduction in torque by using upshifts to deliver maximum power to the wheels through each gear change . This gives the driver a responsive feeling of dynamic acceleration when shifting, with a factory-estimated time of zero to 60 mph of 5.6 seconds. N Track Sense Shift (NTS) detects when road conditions are optimal for dynamic driving and automatically activates, selecting the correct gear and shift timing for optimal performance.
Whoa, change of power! Grin Shift !! Monitoring of change of direction !!! Hyundai sure … felt compelled to name things. But if it translates to a good driving experience, I don’t mind that the car brochure reads like a comic. (Who am I kidding, I have a giant parrot painted on the hood of my car, I love this shit).
For the more mature set, you may be interested to know that the safety features now integrated into Veloster N include: “Forward Collision Prevention Assist, Lane Tracking Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Blind Spot Collision Prevention Assistance and Rear Cross Traffic Collision Warning “.
The illuminated logo seats, which are one thing, apparently also save 4.4 pounds over the old ones, so that’s great.
Price updates are to be determined, but the Veloster N 2021 is supposed to be a Hyundai store in October. I suppose dropping the 250 horsepower variant of the “standard package” means baThe price will be closer to $ 30,000, but we’ll see!
