Ford has opened the order books for the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E Fully electric crossover. If you were waiting for another flyer before pulling the trigger, the Mach-E now generates up to 14 more horsepower than originally promised.

When Mach-E was officially announced late last year, no one was really questioning its power numbers. But, according to Ford, development and testing between the announcement and the opening of today’s order books meant that the engineers were able to squeeze a little more juice out of the powertrain.

The standard-range Mach-E gets 11 more horsepower for the rear-wheel drive model and the all-wheel drive model, and both versions get a boost of 11 lb-ft of torque. Extended range model gets 8 HP 11 lb-ft boost. The biggest changes come in the extended-range all-wheel drive, which now has 14 HP and, again, 11 pound-feet of torque from previous estimates. Final numbers for the top-tier GT performance model have yet to be announced, and it’s the only tuning that remains reserve-only until the end of this year.

Here are the new official power figures for the Mach-E, according to Ford:

  • The extended-range four-wheel drive Mach-E will deliver 346 horsepower / 258 kilowatts and 428 pound-feet. of torque, above previous estimates of 332 horsepower / 240 kilowatts and 417 pound-feet, directly from the door, with a target time of 0-60 mph in the mid-range of 5 seconds *
  • Extended range rear-wheel drive models will produce 290 horsepower / 216 kilowatts and 317 pound-feet, compared to 282 horsepower / 210 kilowatts and 306 pound-feet *.
  • Standard range four-wheel drive models will pump 266 horsepower / 198 kilowatts and 428 pound-feet, compared to 255 horsepower / 190 kilowatts and 417 pound-feet *.
  • Standard range rear-wheel drive models will deliver 266 horsepower / 198 kilowatts and 317 pound-feet, compared to 255 horsepower / 190 kilowatts and 306 pound-feet *.

There are no updates to the range estimates. The extended-range rear-wheel drive Mach-E, which is expected to be the most frugal, has reportedly headed for a 300-mile range, while the standard-range model is expected to be around 230 miles. Although the EPA is yet to release any official estimates.

Some may think that people have been tough on the Mach-E, but when you put a lot of pressure on automakers to make good cars, you get things like a performance boost before you even get delivery like this. I’m not saying Ford felt pressure to give the car more power, but nobody here is stupid. It will help sell the car, and I am happier about it.
