The 2020 Game Awards are still going strong (Online), and it’s the biggest one yet – IGN Unfiltered

Geoff Keighley has revealed that the 2020 Game Awards are still happening, but it will be available online, and it’s about to be the biggest Game Awards yet .IGN’s Ryan McCaffrey sat down with Keighley to discuss the Game Awards in the past episode of IGN Unfiltered (the full episode airs tomorrow), along with details about Keighley’s storytelling history with award shows, his thoughts on the PS5 and Xbox Series X, the cancellation of E3, his famous friendship with Hideo Kojima, and much, much more more. When asked if the Game Awards would be virtual, seeing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Keighley said, “Yeah … what I’ll say about that, we have a very interesting plan for the show this year. We are absolutely doing it.Many people are [asking], ‘Are you out of it? The Oscars are postponed, are you postponing The Game Awards? ‘We are absolutely not. We will share more about them in the coming weeks, but it will probably be our biggest show yet.

“We’re apparently not going to have 10,000 people in a room together, physically, for the show, but I think … you’ll see a little bit of this with how we do GamesCom. We’re definitely doing more than just me in a room , announce winners.I’m really passionate about [still] do the show live, versus something pre-recorded. So, yes, we’re working on some scenarios for ways to present the show live with a little spectacle for people … without the audience [being] able to buy tickets to get to the show, and things like that, this year.“There’s a lot of work, and honestly, our team is working overtime thinking about how we present this in a way that drives the sector in a slightly larger way. That we’ll do some things, we hope still do some spectacle and scale on how we do things, but we’ll probably not be able to do the ‘traditional’ show this year, but it’s going to happen, for sure. “
