Texas woman discharged from hospital after 3 months with COVID-19

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas – A North Texas woman is finally home after a three-month hospital stay after testing positive for COVID-19.

The doctors and nurses at Medical City-North Hills consider Paola Castillo’s recovery to be a miracle.

“There is a point where they didn’t know if I was going to make it or not,” Castillo said.

The 24-year-old spent more than a month in the ICU with a ventilator. Doctors said they had to put her in a medically induced coma.

“Maybe if I had listened and put on a mask, something simple, I would have avoided all of this,” he said. “I work in a bank. I’m always surrounded by people, but I thought ‘I’m fine, I’m fine.’ I never thought I’d catch him.”

Doctors at Medical City-North Hills said they are seeing more and more young patients contract the virus.

“We have seen many patients die in our hospital who were in their situation,” said Dr. Hetal Rana.

That is why Castillo’s story gives them so much hope.

“It just revitalizes you and gives you a sense of what it means to save someone’s life and help someone get over a disease as serious as this,” said Rana.

Although he’s out of the hospital, Castillo’s recovery path is far from over.

“He probably has months and months of rehab,” said Rana.

But Castillo is grateful for his second chance at life.

“It is a miracle that I am alive and I keep fighting. I will keep fighting until I get better.”
