Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger was cut short in the Alamo Bowl that evening. The question now is whether his collegiate career is over.
The senior did not participate in the second half of the 55-23 Colorado routine on Tuesday because he suffered a shoulder injury that caused him to suffer in the first half. Ehlinger was seen in street clothes and a sling after halftime. Although Ehlinger carried a few sacks, he still had a solid first half with 160 yards passing and a touchdown.
The focus now shifts to Ehlinger’s future. Ehlinger may return to Texas in 2021 due to the NCAA’s decision to give Fall Sport Athletes an additional year of eligibility due to COMIT-19. When Ehlinger attended the pre-achievement senior day ceremony before the Iowa State game in November, he never made it clear he was sure to move on to the NFL after this season. Is a sign of unfinished business. Texas fell short of expectations of a Big 12 win and always lost to Oklahoma. Ehlinger is also the program’s second leading career with 11,436 yards and 94 touchdowns. If he returns for one more season, he will definitely break the career passing and touchdown records of the schools set by Colt Mt.
If this is for Ehlinger, it’s hard to get out. It’s the best quarterback of the show in a decade and his story as a lifelong horns fan growing up in the school’s backyard is well documented. Still, it would be surprising if he came back for another year. It is not considered a high draft pick, but despite this being a loaded quarterback class, it is unlikely that it will significantly increase its draft stock with its second year in draft led. And redshirt softmore Casey Thompson based on the way football is slipping into the second half … well … it will be time to move on. With Thompson playing – off-10, passing 1 y0 yards and four touchdowns, Alam Lamo bowled the record for the highest score.
He was not alone as the star of the game. Freshman, who runs Bison Robinson, had 183 yards on just 10 carryings and three total touchdowns. Robinson has been a late bloomer in part because Texas has insisted it remains part of the back rotting for most of the year. To be fair, Roshan Johnson has earned his carry and scored one of them The best rushing touchdown you’ll see this season Against buffalo. But now over the weeks it has become clear that Robinson is that dude and in his last two games he has six touchdowns on 24 touchdowns of 15 yards per touch. Their combination of low energy and balance makes it difficult to bring it down.
