The term “teacher” is officially canceled when it comes to describing rooms and bathrooms … at least when you are looking for a home in Houston.
The Houston Association of Realtors no longer uses the word “master” to exalt bedrooms and baths in its Multiple Listing Service … instead, real estate agents use the word “primary.”
The change in terminology, which happened quietly earlier this month, is already in effect in HAR’s property listing database … and came after several members demanded a revision of the language, which some believe is It carries connotations of slavery.
According to HAR, the change has been planned and considered for several years … and they are finally disconnecting the “teacher.” It’s worth noting … Houston has one of the highest African American populations in the country.
Don’t celebrate or yell in a vacuum just yet … HAR says the change is merely a suggestion and does not constitute a prohibition on the term “teacher.”
Other “masters” are already dating … like the Sommelier Masters Court, which says it will no longer use the word “master” before a wine sommelier’s last name.
And, it begs the question, what’s next in the cut block?
There’s the The Masters golf tournament, Oprah‘Master Class and Master’s degree to name a few.
