Texas confirms that non-conference match will be against UTEP

The Longhorns’ 2020 football schedule has been finalized. As Horns247 first reported last week, Texas expected to face UTEP in Longhorns’ lone non-conference game this season and UT officials have confirmed the report since Wednesday afternoon in an announcement.

Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte made the official announcement of the season’s non-conference game in his Forty Acres Insider newsletter.

“On Wednesday, the Big 12 also announced our 2020 football schedule for conferences, with our first league game on September 26 at Texas Tech. Our conference will continue in the format of nine league games, plus one non-conference game, starting with every Big 12 league. “Our season opener is September 26. Our season opener will be UTEP on September 12 at Campbell-Williams Field at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium and will be followed by a weekly week,” Del Conte said Wednesday.

Each Big 12 team will be guaranteed a minimum of two bye weeks during their schedule. All other leagues for leagues (Soccer, Volleyball and Cross Country) can start on September 1. To ensure consistent health and safety protocols, Volleyball and Soccer matches will be held. limit yourself to conference opponents. There are still discussions and plans to be made, and we will continue to keep you all informed of that news as we receive it.We appreciate your patience, understanding and how “You’re all confident. We are excited to move forward with our waterfalls for seasons and prepare for our Longhorns this fall!”

Horns247 columnist Chip Brown reported earlier, the reason the Longhorns wanted UTEP to play instead of South Florida is because of proximity and keeping the money in the UT system of schools.

The football schedule of Longhorns’ 2020 will look like this for the autumn:

Head coach of the fourth year Tom Herman was very pleased by the announcement of the conference that went ahead with a fall football season, as he expressed in a statement on Wednesday afternoon.

“I was very hopeful that the Big 12 would come to this decision,” Herman said. “Chris Del Conte has been great; he kept me informed about the whole process so it did not come as a surprise. Our boys are really excited.

“We understand all the health and safety challenges and appreciate everything our medical team does here, but probably the worst thing about all of this has been the uncertainty. It has been very hard mentally for our players, and they have fought a great job through it. When the conference comes out and says, ‘We aim to find every possible way we can play this season,’ I think that gives her a lot of pride, and it gives her a lot of confidence that, if she’s here come out and do what they have to do, they will play this great game that they love. “
