The Lions could find themselves in hot water with the Texans League after engaging in some poor sporting activity to get themselves a free timeout in the Thanksgiving win over.
With eight minutes left in the fourth quarter, the Texans realized they had 12 players on the field on defense. Two players, AJ Moore and Charles Omnihu, ran off the field to avoid a penalty. Omnihu then realized that they were now being let go for a short period of time, just flopped to the ground and hurt that he was hurt. An officer called the duration of the injury and the Texans will be able to get proper personnel on the field before the next play. Texans were not penalized and did not lose time.
Omnihu was apparently smoking; He was shown on the side laughing later and not seeking medical treatment.
This is a violation of NFL rules. Steelers and Emanuel Sanders were fined after injuring Sanders in 2012, and in 2013 the league sent memos to all 32 teams stating that bogus injuries could lead to “coaches, players and clubs being fined, suspended or drafted. Choices.”
The NFL should crack down on Texans and Omnihu, unless the league wants to tell every team that they can cheat and get away with it.
