In a move that forever changes what it means to be a relationship, Twitter is testing some new language on tweet metrics, making quotes (including retweets with comments) visible on every tweet, the company confirmed Saturday.
“A few months ago, we made retweets with comments more visible if you tap to see Retweets on a Tweet, ”a Twitter spokesperson wrote in an email to The edge. “This is available to everyone. Now, we’re testing Retweets with comments directly accessible on the Tweet and New Language (Quotes) to see if this makes them more accessible and understandable. ‘
IN Ferry reader tipped us to the new name of the feature, which is displayed the number of times a tweet is quoted next to likes and retweets:
In May, Twitter tested the “Retweet with Comments” counter with some iOS users, who left the number next to the “Likes” and “Retweets” of a tweet. It made it much easier to find quoted answers on a tweet.
Of course, Twitter has struggled in recent months with several changes to user interface that have not become permanent features; it tried an ‘original tweeter’ label to mark who started a conversation thread, a notification snooze feature and an option to receive notifications for replies to an individual tweet.
Twitter has previously said it is refining its UI with a view to improving conversations among users. Product Management Director Suzanne Xie told CES in January that Twitter was thinking about some of the less healthy interactions on the platform, such as “getting ratio’d, getting dunked on” when it introduced new updates.
