Tesla improves driving visualizations to distinguish cars in their own lineup

Tesla is working on improving its Autopilot Driving Visualizations to distinguish cars in their own lineup.

Over the past year, Tesla has put a lot of effort into improving its driving visuals.

Powered by Autopilot’s suite of sensors and the automaker’s computer vision system, Tesla creates the environment of the red on the screen.

It is by no means a substitute for seeing the car, but it is considered a confidence builder for Autopilot.

The visualizations have improved over the years, and they show more and more accurate views of the surroundings, with Tesla adding trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, and pedestrians over the years.

More recently, Tesla has implemented major upgrades to display traffic lights and stop signs as it prepares for more driver-assistance features for city release.

Now, Tesla has also added several new renders to differentiate vehicle models and types on the road, as reported by Tesla hacker Green:

As shown in the image, Tesla will be showing off its current vehicle lineup, Model X, Model 3, Model S, and Model Y.

It is apparently also prepared to supply service cars and construction vehicles.

As we recently reported, Tesla is going through “an important fundamental rewrite in the Tesla Autopilot.” As part of the rewriting, CEO Elon Musk says it “neural no longer absorbs more and more of the problem.”

It will also include a more in-depth labeling system.

The CEO admitted that the Autofilot visualization will ‘dramatically improve’ and Tesla will be able to develop better iterations quickly.

Electrek’s Take

Driving visualizations are great for building confidence in Tesla’s driver assistance system and, ultimately, Tesla’s self-driving system.

If it represents its environment precisely, it means that it detects it precisely – now it is or is taking appropriate action, but it is a step in the right direction.

Detecting a specific car model does not change much, but it does show the capabilities of Tesla’s computer bike system.
