Tesla dating app made for owners is obsessed with Elon Musk

  • A techie in Canada launches a dating app exclusively for controlled owners of Tesla cars, following the electric cars with a loyal cult following.
  • The idea came after app creator Ajitpal Grewal learned that Tesla owners could not stop talking about their cars and share similar values, such as “stanning Elon Musk,” he told Business Insider.
  • Grewal says the app is still in the “early stages” of development. Since the website’s launch on Wednesday, more than 160 people have signed up for the app’s waiting list.

Tesla stands, happy – there may soon be a dating app where you can pursue like-minded car owners who are also obsessed with their electric cars and CEO Elon Musk.

An app called Tesla Dating is currently in the works, made exclusively for verified Tesla owners. The setup of the app is similar to that of Tinder or Bumble, except the only people appearing on the app are fellow followers of Tesla cult.

The app is the work of Ajitpal Grewal, a self-described “e-commerce entrepreneur” and Tesla resident in Canada. Grewal told Business Insider that he decided to create the app after realizing that Tesla owners only wanted to talk about one thing: how much they loved their Teslas.

“It became a big part of their identity, and they shared a lot of the same values, like they want to reduce their impact on the environment, stop Elon Musk, or appreciate high tech,” Grewal said in an email. “Suddenly it struck me, these people would be perfect for each other. “

Tesla Dating is still in the “early stages” of development, but Grewal has launched a website where interested users can sign up for early access to “an exclusive community of like-minded Elon stans.” Since the website went live Wednesday, more than 160 people have signed up for the waiting list, Grewal said.

Grewal’s app capitalizes on the loyal following built around Tesla and Musk, its CEO. Tesla owners are known for making sure everyone else knows they have one – and undoubtedly love – one of the electric cars, the cheapest model starting at $ 38,000. However, fans of Elon Musk are even more furious: They adore the billionaire’s productive and controversial Twitter presence and slam journalists and critics who write everything online negatively about him.

To create a profile on the Tesla Dating app, users will be required to check that they actually own a Tesla, Grewal said. Grewal told Business Insider he plans to do so by asking users to submit a photo of themselves in their Tesla.

Users will be able to specify on their data profiles their model and configuration of their car, and will have potential matches, sorted by those whose car characteristics are most consistent with them.

“I believe your car tells a lot about you as a person,” Grewal told Business Insider.
