Terrell Owens competes with Tyreek Hill and is still pretty fast

Perhaps Terrell Owens could still play a little.

Owens has been pushing for him to return since leaving the NFL, and has found no candidates. Since he will be 47 in December, he probably will not.

But give this to the Hall of Fame catcher: He’s still in better shape than almost everyone else on the planet.

Owens competed with Tyreek Hill, the Kansas City Chiefs receiver who is recognized as one of the fastest players not only in the NFL, but has also considered trying to make it to the Olympics. It has tremendous top speed. And again, Owens is 46 years old.

Given that, TO didn’t do too badly (the race is at approximately 4:40 pm of this YouTube clip that was posted on the Hill channel):

Finishing 3-4 yards behind Hill in one run isn’t that bad for anyone, let alone a guy nearing 50. There are probably some receivers currently in the NFL who couldn’t keep him that close. Hill won the race, but being so quick Owens could be the most impressive thing about that clip.

Owens, an All-Pro five times, last played in 2010 with the Cincinnati Bengals. He scored nine touchdowns in 14 games at age 37. He has always been a physical marvel and has kept him in retirement, perhaps in case some NFL team accepted him to play again.

It would be absolutely fascinating to see any team give Owens a chance, like the Hartford Whalers who employ Gordie Howe at 51 years old or the Kansas City Athletics letting Satchel Paige throw three scoreless innings at 58 years old. Don’t say you wouldn’t tune in to watch.
