The Tompkins County Health Department says there are ten new positive cases of COVID-19 in Tompkins County in a single day of results. That’s on top of nine known active cases as of Monday night, though two of them are now listed as recovered.
“Of the ten new positive cases, five are related to out-of-state travel, four are related to a known case at a local meeting on July 4 where no social distancing and wearing of masks were observed, and one case is connected to a active positive case with all identified close contacts, “according to a statement from the Department of Health.
They say the nurses completed the contact search for the ten new cases and all close contacts were identified, none of the newly reported positive cases had public exposures, and the Health Department does not recommend testing for the public in response to these new cases. . Those who tested positive were isolated and all close contacts are in quarantine.
“The recent increase in positive cases in our community is troubling, we need to continue to take this virus seriously and do everything we can to prevent it from continuing to spread in Tompkins County. We have all worked hard to keep our numbers low and to help protect our friends and families, we cannot let that hard work go to waste by not following the guide, ”said Tompkins County Director of Public Health Frank Kruppa, in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
People with symptoms or who are concerned about being exposed should be tested.
