TAMPA, Fla. (AP) – A television news reporter in Florida is crediting an eagle-eyed viewer for noticing a lump on his neck and e-mailing him to have it checked. Victoria Price, a WFLA reporter in Tampa, followed the advice and was diagnosed with cancer.

Price tweeted that he will undergo surgery Monday to remove the tumor, his thyroid and a pair of lymph nodes.

“The doctor said it is spreading, but not too much, and we hope this is my first and last procedure,” he said.

The viewer emailed Price last month, saying the lump reminded him of one he had had.

Price, 28, and an investigative journalist, said this week that his television station’s catchphrase is “8 On Your Side.”

“But the roles were recently reversed when I found a viewer on MY side, and I couldn’t be more grateful,” Price said. “I will forever be grateful for the woman who went out of her way to email me, a total unknown. She had no obligation to do so, but she did it anyway. Talk about being on your side, huh?
