Teen prank was behind massive Twitter hack, report says

According to a report, a Twitter hacking scheme targeting high-profile users like Elon Musk and Barack Obama started as a joke among a group of three hackers.

The biggest attack on the history of the social media platform began with a user named “Kirk” who boasted to two teens that he worked on Twitter and could access even the most high-profile accounts, according to The New York Times.

One of the teens lived in the United States and used the online name “hahaha”, and the other, who lived in the UK, used the online name “very anxious”.

The UK-based teenager denied working with “Kirk” to take over the accounts belonging to Joe Biden, Bill Gates and others. The hackers posted messages on the accounts suggesting that followers make thousands of “donations” of bitcoins.

“Based on what we know now, we believe that approximately 130 accounts were attacked by the attackers in some way as part of the incident,” Twitter said. “For a small subset of these accounts, attackers were able to gain control of the accounts and then send Tweets from those accounts.”

Authorities are still trying to uncover the real identities behind the hackers’ nicknames on Twitter.
