Manchester United vs Chelsea: What has been said?
Frank Lampard has rejected claims by United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer that Chelsea have an unfair advantage in the semifinal.
Chelsea fell 3-0 at Sheffield United on Saturday, but then beat Norwich at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday, leaving five days until the Wembley game.
United drew 2-2 with Southampton at Old Trafford on Monday, then won 2-0 at Crystal Palace on Thursday night.
When asked if Chelsea has an advantage this weekend, Lampard replied: “No, I don’t think we will. I think we played Saturday and Tuesday this week, they played Monday and Thursday, so we have both played two games this week as they are.
“We are in a period where we play games all the time very regularly, and you become ‘play, recover, play again, recover’ and work with the team as is.
“It is an old question for many managers, you will probably unearth the moments when I have mentioned it, but at the same time it is not about advantages or not.
“Sometimes it works in your favor to be playing regularly and playing, so no, I don’t see it.”
Lampard added: “We know they are playing well, they have three very, very powerful forwards; probably the top three most powerful in the country, in terms of pure numbers anyway, in terms of goals.
“And obviously (Bruno) Fernandes made a big difference in January.
“So you can see the strength that he has brought to his team with individual quality. But we know that. Therefore, we have to trust ourselves, face their threats and also worry about ourselves.”
