Today (2) is the beginning of a new week Meteorological expert Wu Shengyu said he is concerned about the focus of this week, the dynamics of typhoon lightning.
▲ When did Typhoon lightning actually affect Taiwan? Experts Reveal Full Timeline (Image / Summary by Wu Shengyu, a Meteorologist)
Wu Shengyu said that although the lightning typhoon has occurred in recent days, it has been affected by interference from the typhoon that has developed too strongly forward. The structure has not been ideal, regardless of the low-level vorticity or T-value (generally, the stronger the typhoon, the higher the T-value). It reached the level that a typhoon should have. Last night, with Typhoon Swan rapidly weakening, Typhoon Lightning finally began to develop. The convective cloud group was a bit more vigorous than before, but a better structure may need to be rearranged. Over a period of time, roughly the next 2-3 days, the intensity should have a chance to slowly increase.
In terms of dynamics, everyone is paying more attention. Wu Shengyu said that as the shortwave trough moves east, the area near Taiwan to Ryukyu has transformed into a relatively weak area between the high pressures from the east and the west, that is, a saddle field. riding. At the same time, Typhoon Swan in the west also continues to recede to the west. The two gradually separate and no longer interfere with each other. Therefore, after typhoon lightning enters the saddle field, the guiding force will weaken and the speed will be significantly reduced. It is estimated that it will rotate in the saddle field for at least 36-48 hours, and then wait up to about a week. On Thursday (5), as the northern shortwave trough recedes, the high pressure strengthens and a high pressure ridge is established in the north of Typhoon Lightning, and the typhoon will begin to accelerate westward. . This trend is practically unchanged from last week’s view.
Therefore, until Thursday (5), Typhoon lightning should not have any impact on the weather in Taiwan, but on Friday and Saturday (6-7), the lightning crosses the Bashi Channel in southern Taiwan and enters the northern part of the South China Sea and accelerates to the west. Water and air circulate to the north. It is estimated that it will bring rain to the eastern half, the Hengchun Peninsula, especially the eastern part of Huadong. There is the possibility of local heavy rains and cloud cover will increase elsewhere as well. Southern Gaoping and Central and Northern Regions If there is sufficient humidity in the mountainous area, there may be brief rains and the overall climate will be more unstable.
Wu Shengyu further noted that the northeast monsoon strengthened again on Sunday (8), but by this time typhoon lightning had already gone far, so the possibility of a co-accompanying effect appeared to be low and the north-south system it wouldn’t work together.
There may still be some changes in the location of the passage through southern Taiwan. A little further north you will be closer to the waters of Taiwan. The impact on us will be greater. The possibility of a maritime alert cannot even be ruled out. Therefore, the location of the rays in the next two days will be very important. This will affect whether it moves west or north and will affect the amount of rainfall in Taiwan.
Regarding the weather today and tomorrow (2-3 days), Wu Shengyu said that the northeast monsoon is weak during the day and the weather is generally good. From tonight through tomorrow, the northeast monsoon will strengthen and there will be a chance of rain in the windward areas. The accumulated precipitation is great and the temperature will become colder. From tomorrow night until the day after tomorrow, Wednesday (4), the low temperature in the open area of northern Taiwan will drop to about 18-19 degrees. The high temperature during the day will also cool down significantly. The monsoon is expected to weaken slightly and the weather after Thursday will depend on changes in lightning. We remind everyone to pay attention to the latest weather information.
