Wayne County Voting Commission Chair Monica Palmer (Monica Palmer) and Commissioner William Hartmann (William Hartmann) signed affidavits on November 18, certifying that they voted to certify the election the day before. Before voting Tuesday, Hartman determined that the 71% count of absentee votes in Wayne County had an inexplicable number of unbalanced votes. The two initially voted against certification, and the committee also fell into a stalemate. Later, he and Palmer received promises before they voted for it.
“I was tempted to accept certification because I promised to conduct a full independent audit,” Hartman wrote in the affidavit. “Until these issues are resolved, I still oppose Wayne County’s certification of results.”
In the affidavit, Hartman listed his other concerns in the presidential election, which include: the issue of private funds used to pay workers voters has not been resolved.
“I also expressed my concern about the use of private funds to guide local officials in electoral management, how these funds were used and whether these funds were used to pay election officials. Both Hartman and Palmer said that after voting against the certification result, they were vilified and accused of racism. Palmer said these abuses even reached the level of “threatening me and my family members.” US President Trump tweeted about the incident on November 18.

After the initial vote, Trump commented on the situation in Wayne County, saying the two Republican election officials were brave.
“Wow! Michigan just refused to certify election results! Courage is a virtue. America is proud!” He said.
Trump later tweeted again in the early hours of Thursday morning: “The great state of Michigan cannot certify the election because the number of votes is so much greater than the number of voters. Democrats savagely cheated and got caught. The Republicans won! “
