Sina Finance cited foreign news reports that the UK is expected to become the first Western country to approve the new corona pneumonia vaccine, and the UK medical regulatory agency can approve it in a few days. According to an insider from the UK government, the new corona pneumonia (COVID-19, Wuhan pneumonia) vaccine jointly developed by German biotech company BioNTech and Pfizer of the United States will begin delivery within hours of your approval. People familiar with the matter said the first batch of vaccines can start on December 7.

The UK is reported to have ordered 40 million doses of this two-dose product. Preliminary data shows that the product is more than 95% effective in preventing disease. The vaccine will be approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) before the end of the Brexit transition on December 31. However, in the case of urgent public needs, the UK Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has the right to temporarily approve products.

The same method can be used for vaccines developed by AstraZeneca Plc and the University of Oxford. On November 27, the British government sent a letter to the regulator asking it to review the AstraZeneca-Oxford vaccine.

Additionally, in early November, BioNTech and Pfizer submitted data to the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for a large-scale phase 3 trial involving more than 43,000 people. According to media reports, the United States could urgently approve the plan from December 8-10 and begin shipping to all parts of the country within 24 hours of the announcement.

These companies also provide data to EMA and to authorities in the UK, Canada, Japan and Australia; EMA and MHRA are conducting an expedited review of some vaccine candidates. However, these regulatory agencies face the daunting task of striking a balance between major public health needs and reliance on safe and effective vaccines, which are essential to contain the epidemic.

The Pfizer and BioNTech vaccines will be the first licensed vaccines with mRNA technology, but they must be stored in an environment of minus 70 degrees Celsius during transport and can only be stored in the refrigerator for up to 5 days before use.
