The Taiwanese government stated that recently hundreds of Chinese sand mining vessels have gathered in the waters off Matsu Nangan, and the Maritime Patrol has dispatched large ships to eject cross-border sand mining vessels.

A few days ago, some people in Matsu posted hundreds of photos on Facebook of alleged Chinese pumped sand boats gathering in the open sea, stating that “Matsu Nangan is now surrounded and is commonly known as the besieged island.”

The photos show that the suspected Chinese ships are infested off the coast of Matsu Nangan. The photos and posts have attracted the attention of the Taiwanese people and the media.

The Taiwan Executive Yuan Ocean Committee stated that between four hundred and five hundred Chinese ships gathered in the waters near Matsu, most of which were located outside the restricted waters of 6,000 meters.
