In response to the opening of US pig imports last year, the Kaohsiung City Government signed a “Memorandum of Cooperation to Strengthen Inspection of Ractopamine Residues in Imported Meat Products” with Tende Group, a renowned testing agency Germany, in Taiwan Tendemus Technology Consulting Co., Ltd. Wei Zhangzhi, General Manager of Tende After swearing to protect the Kaohsiung metropolitan area, the Taichung city government also decided to cooperate with Tende to detect American pigs and cattle. Unexpectedly, Tende sparked a suspicion of fraud in the food safety inspection reports. The Bureau of Investigation interviewed General Manager Wei Zhangzhi. After being verified by “Apple News”, the day before yesterday announced a request to the Food and Drug Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare to abolish all elements of certification.
Tende Group is a recognized multinational testing organization in Germany. It has more than 60 laboratories in advanced countries around the world, especially specialized in food safety, agrochemicals, pharmaceuticals and other related fields. The group’s Taiwan branch also won the gold medal in 2018. The Torch Award was the only food safety certification and inspection consulting organization to win the Innovation Award and Top Ten Manager Award among more than 400 companies. participants that year.
Unexpectedly, Tendems was accused of falsifying the test report, saying the company carried out three test cases for heavy metals in aquatic products and the safety and sanitation of aquatic products exported and sold to the European Union last year. Among them, 60 reports seemed suspected of altering the date, or there was no standard. The malpractice of the report was issued when comparing the products, and the fees for these three cases amounted to millions of yuan.
The Taipei City Bureau of Investigation found that there were suspected abuses in the entire case. Late last year, they began interviewing Tendemuss CEO Wei Zhangzhi and Zhang Lab on charges of document falsification, fraud, and violation of the Food Safety Law. The supervisor and several engineers, the National Testing Foundation (TAF), a legal entity of the consortium, also went to verify on January 18 of this year.
“Apple” called Tendems to verify the matter on the 18th of this month. Tende staff said: “Our company now has some internal response methods to aid the investigation, but we cannot disclose it until the investigation results are released.”
On the 19th the next day, Tendemus suddenly issued a statement on the official website, stating:Since the laboratory found an abnormal situation during the internal audit, it has taken the initiative to petition the Food and Drug Administration TFDA to abolish all elements of certification and TAF suspends all laboratory certifications.. Yesterday the website was shut down due to the company adjusting the new website review policy.
It is understood that Tendems conducted 3 heavy metal inspections on aquatic products last year, two of which were related to aquatic products. The main inspection items included environmental pollutants such as lead (EM01), cadmium (EM02), mercury (EM03), dioxins and Polychlorinated biphenyls (EH01), animal drugs, food microorganisms, etc., and the other is the sauce products. soybeans, which are primarily tested for carcinogens.
The Bureau of Investigation received an indictment alleging that Tendems suspected that due to a lack of manpower, the case could not be completed beyond the deadline for execution. The managers had sent a letter to warn the relevant staff that if the three inspection cases were not completed, not only would the price not be charged. Jin, I’m afraid you will be fined millions.
Soon after, the lab was suspected of tampering with 60 of the alleged overdue reports, changing the completion time within the deadline (for example, the actual report issued in August was changed to June for completion), to avoid fines, and It ended without a problem last year. Request payment for the unit ordered earlier this year.
Additionally, Tendemus was also found to be able to purchase 4-methylimidazole (a common carcinogen in soy sauce) as a standard product after a report was issued when testing a type of soy sauce. Under normal circumstances, the test unit should prepare it first. The tests can only be carried out to the proper standards, but Tendemus argues that it borrowed 4-methylimidazole from other companies during the tests.
The inspection noted that the seriousness of the handling date of the food safety inspection report is not trivial. Even if the inspection is done, the sample timing, status, calibration or run time cannot match, which will invalidate the entire report and lead to the credibility of the industry products. All was lost, so after hearing the news of Tendems’ involvement, some customers were so angry that they crumpled the previously obtained test report into a ball of waste paper.
Although Tengde has found that there are only more than 60 reports suspected of being fraudulent, and the total value is only a few million, it is understood that the relevant summoned personnel have handled more than 300 inspection reports in the last six months, and the inspection will be carried out one by one. Take inventory and hold relevant personnel accountable. (Rao Weisheng / Taipei Report)
