So far, four people have been prosecuted for crimes against the National Security Law, and Li Zhiying’s case is the latest. All four will continue to accept the police after questioning. Two of them have applied for High Court bail, including Tang Yingjie, who was involved in a motorcycle that collided with police on July 1, and “Second Generation Captain America” charged with inciting Hong Kong’s independence. . According to the Criminal Procedure Ordinance, the court must order the defendant to be released on bail unless the court believes the defendant will report on time, commit a crime during bail, interfere with witnesses, and obstruct justice . Li Zhiying was charged with the crime of collusion with foreign or foreign forces to endanger national security, alleging that between July 1 and December 1 of this year, Li Zhiying solicited foreign or foreign institutions, organizations and personnel in Hong Kong to carry out actions against the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or the People’s Republic of China. Sanctions, blockades, or other hostile actions violate article 29 (4) of the National Security Law.
Regarding the fraud case, Li Zhiying, along with two senior executives of Next Media Group, Zhou Daquan (63) and Huang Weiqiang (59), were charged with failing to press the lease between June 27, 2016 and on May 22, 2020. Both cases were handled by one of the judges appointed by the National Security Law, Chief Magistrate Su Huide. Su refused to allow Li Zhiying to be released on bail both times. The case was postponed until April 16.
