The Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation released a poll today. More than half the people agree with President Tsai Ing-wen. Foundation President You Yinglong said President Tsai’s reputation has slowly waned like melting ice, reaching its lowest point in the past 13 months. The challenge to President Tsai’s leadership and authority is near.
The Taiwan Public Opinion Foundation today made a presentation in a national survey in January. The foundation’s president, You Yinglong, chaired the conference and invited three scholars and experts, including Lin Zhongzheng, Lin Zhuoshui, and Su Huanzhi.
In terms of the prestige of President Tsai Ing-wen, polls show that 14.8% of people strongly agree with her way of handling national affairs, including important personnel arrangements and policies, 36.5% % of them agree, 21.3% do not agree and 16.1% disagree with all. 11.3% do not have comments, do not know or refuse to respond.
In other words, 51% of the people basically agree with the way President Tsai Ing-wen handles national affairs and 30% disagree. There are 13.9% more people who agree than disagree. You Yinglong said that President Tsai Ing-wen, who has been in office for eight months in his second term, is still recognized by more than half of Taiwan’s population.
According to You Yinglong’s analysis, compared to last month, the number of approvers decreased by 1.5 percentage points and those who disagree increased by 1.1 percentage points. In other words, compared with those who disagree, the number of people who agree with them decreased by 2.6 percentage point points. “This means that while President Tsai’s overall reputation continues to decline, like melting ice, the rate of decline has slowed.”
Compared to previous polls, he said that President Tsai Ing-wen has just finished his honeymoon period and his normal life has begun. Tsai Ing-wen’s “Presidential Performance Approval Rate” appeared in May last year, reaching 71.2%, which appeared in the COVID-19 Pandemic Under the peculiar historical situation, it is an extraordinary achievement.
But from another perspective, the lowest point of the “presidential performance approval rate” in the last 13 months was 51.3% of this poll, and the “presidential performance disapproval rate” was the highest point in the past 13 months. 37.4% this time.
Therefore, You Yinglong said that overall, although President Tsai still has the support of just over half the population, this is the lowest point in the past 13 months. Judging by recent rapid changes in the domestic and international environment, including the prevention of internal epidemics and disputes over Laizhu, the challenge to President Tsai’s leadership and authority is near.
