China’s “new energy” electric vehicle makers have launched their own electric vehicles in the past two years, each aiming to take over Tesla’s market, but the safety of these manufacturers is often questioned.
Recently, China’s “Weima” electric vehicles have become the latest focus of attention. Because they had four spontaneous combustion incidents in 35 days. Yesterday they officially announced the recall of 1,282 electric vehicles that may have a risk of spontaneous combustion.
On September 23, a Weimar EX5 in Wenzhou spontaneously ignited; on October 5, a Weimar EX5 parked on the side of the road in Shaowu, Fujian spontaneously ignited; In the early morning of October 13, a Weimar EX5 spontaneously ignited while charging. The vehicle was badly burned.
Since October, at least three Weimar vehicles have reportedly caught fire. On October 5 and 13, two Weimar vehicles spontaneously caught fire in Shaowu, Fujian.
The latest is that on October 27, an EX5 caught fire at the Mechanics Institute of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beisihuan West Road, Haidian District, Beijing. Surrounding residents said they heard a violent explosion, there was a distinct sense of commotion and a pungent smell permeated the scene.
When the two cars spontaneously turn on in Shaowu city, Fujian province, Weimar admitted that the quality of the cars’ battery is faulty and said they will replace batteries from the same batch of electric cars one after another. However, in less than a month, there was another accident that caused the car to ignite spontaneously on the road, so Weimar will announce a full recall.
The automaker said the supplier of batteries for the recalled vehicles mixed impurities during the production process, causing abnormal lithium evolution in the power battery. In extreme cases, the battery can short-circuit, causing thermal runaway from the power battery and a fire hazard, posing a safety hazard. Therefore, it is recommended that the relevant vehicle owners immediately stop the execution of the hidden vehicles and contact the local authorized Weimar dealer for maintenance.
Confidence in dividing the electric car market, as well as the iPhone market will eventually be divided by Chinese mobile phones
There are many local brands of electric vehicles in China. Although Tesla currently holds a leading position, these Chinese EV makers are not worried.
Shen Hui, founder and CEO of Weimar Motors, once said that Tesla is now like Apple back then, using the iPhone to lay the foundation for the entire market. But now the iPhone market share has been divided between Huawei, Oppo, and Xiaomi. Therefore, it foresees that in the next 5 to 10 years, the electric vehicle market will also undergo substantial changes.
However, like mobile phones, the battery problem is also a major concern for electric vehicles. Even Samsung, which has been making mobile phones for many years, fell heavily due to battery problems in 2016. But now the problem with Weimar is that it has only released the serial burn, and it burns not only when charging, but also when charging. stops on the side of the road, which is basically a pump action.
Before attempting to defeat Tesla, I’m afraid the battery problem needs to be resolved first.
