The Malayan tapir is a nocturnal animal. He likes to live alone. It feeds on bush branches, young leaves and seedlings. It also collects drops of fruit. In terms of body size, Malayan tapirs are between 1.8 and 2.4 meters long and weigh up to 250-540 kg, the gestation period is up to 13 months, a child has a baby, and the newborn baby weighs about 6.5 kg.
To perpetuate the Malayan tapir population and preserve genetic diversity, the Taipei Zoo introduced the male Malayan tapir “Tapirke” from Prague Zoo in the Czech Republic by participating in the European Species Conservation Project (EEP) in 107, already early July 108 “Tapirke” mixed with the child movie star “Tapir Fang” in the park. In September of the same year, the vet confirmed that “Tapir Fang” was going to be a mother through an ultrasound examination. After more than 13 months of pregnancy, the nurses observed in late August this year. By the time “Tapifang” showed signs of producing behavior, but was delayed because he was “Tapifang’s” first child, the nurses were shaking and monitoring his appearance and physiological changes every day. When they meet conservationists in the rainforest area on the way to the zoo, they always use “have you given birth?” As a greeting.

“Tapirfang” finally gave birth to a baby boy around 8:23 on September 13. The newborn baby weighs 5.1 kg. The dark brown body is covered in white spots and stripes, like a dark brown watermelon, and in black and white. There is a big difference between the father and the mother of two colors. This cute protective color will slowly change in about 2 months, and it will take about 6 months to become the same black and white look as the parents! The child care worker also observes. When the newborn baby has been successfully supporting himself and has drunk colostrum under the care of his mother “Tapir Fang”, everyone is relieved.

The father and mother of the new baby tapir are not young. Except for the little meat father “Tapir Ke” from Prague, Czech Republic, the mother “Tapir Fang”, but in 2010, she filmed “The Drifting Fantasy of Young Pi” directed by Lee Ang. The child star of “Tapir Fang” was not interested in the appearance of “Tapir Ke” in the early stage. Fortunately, the young and spirited “Tapir Ke” continued to take the initiative to show his favor, and succeeded in having “Fang Xin” successfully complete the continuation mission of the extraterritorial ethnic group.
