Lin Zhuoshui, former lawmaker of the Progressive Democratic Party, said: “The president of the National Chengchi University spoke about feudal Confucianism and the greatness of Chinese culture to the President of the Czech Republic, Vedchi. Wei Deqi delivered a speech at the Legislative Yuan today. He was the first foreign speaker to speak at the Taiwan Palace Congress in 45 years, and he was also the first foreign speaker to speak from a non-diplomatic country. Wadezi mentioned in his speech that in 1963, former US President Kennedy clearly opposed communism and oppressive regimes in his famous “I am a Berliner” speech to support the people of West Berlin. Kennedy said that freedom is indivisible. As long as a person is enslaved, no one is free. Kennedy expressed his support for Berliners with the phrase “I am a Berliner.”
“Let me express my support for the people of Taiwan in the same way. Let me end with a more humble but equally determined sentence:” I am Taiwanese! ” When Wei Deqi finished his speech, ruling and opposition lawmakers erupted in applause.
The day before, the President of National Chengchi University Guo Mingzheng, welcoming Wei Deqi’s speech, blurted out that “Taiwanese society 400 years ago was still a primitive society in poorly dressed clothes.” Only then did he apologize for not speaking and being bombed. Guo Mingzheng also mentioned what Confucius said: “It is a pleasure to have friends from afar” and “If you do not accept it from afar, you will learn about culture and morals.” Mencius also said, “Those who do not have a thirst for blood can make one.” In Taiwan, the University of Political Science expected itself as the heir to Chinese culture and established the Luo Jialun International Sinology Seminar. In the next 10 years, 40 of the 100 most famous international sinologists from around the world will come to the University. The political leader is the eternal beacon of international sinology.
